Concord, NH, May 21, 2014 – Adam Porche, a student at Unicoi County CTE Center in Erwin, Tennessee, received a first place award for architectural drafting at both the Tennessee SkillsUSA and Technology Student Association (TSA) State Competitions this spring. Adam chose to compete using DataCAD™ software, a professional CADD program for architectural design. His schoolmates, Abigail Bennett and Justin Keyes, both from Hampton High School, took second and third place respectively in the TSA Architectural Drafting competition with Justin also taking second place in the SkillsUSA Architectural Drafting competition. Justin and Abigail were using Envisioneer™ software, a professional architectural CADD program with Building Information Modeling (BIM). Kelsey Lewis, also from Unicoi County CTE Center, took away third place in both the TSA 3D-CAD Modeling and SkillsUSA Technical Drafting competitions using KeyCreator® Direct CAD Modeling software. The next step for these award-winning students is to compete at the National Competitions taking place this June.
Russell Edwards is Adam and Kelsey’s CAD instructor. He uses DataCAD, Envisioneer and KeyCreator to teach architectural and technical CAD to his students. He simply states, “Student effort + great products + great customer support = Success!” Mr. Edwards has had student medalists in the State SkillsUSA competition consecutively for the past 11 years with six of the years taking first place. He has also had medalists in the TSA Architectural Drafting for the past two years, taking first place both years. He reports that he has had students leave his classroom and go on to become professionals in the fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, nuclear engineering, structural/construction, construction project engineering and architecture. Mr. Edwards has obviously made a significant impact on hundreds of students’ lives with his programs and continues to do so each year. He get his “great products + great customer support” from Technology Education Concepts, Inc. (TEC), National Academic Distributor.
Richard Amarosa, President of TEC said, “TEC congratulates the students on their outstanding performance! As in industry, TSA and SkillsUSA participants need to be a step ahead of their contenders to be medalists. We are pleased that DataCAD, Envisioneer and KeyCreator allowed these students to place over the competition.”
SkillsUSA is a national organization serving high school students, college students and professional members who are enrolled in technical, skilled and service occupations, including health occupations. The TSA is also a national organization that fosters personal growth, leadership, and opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM); members apply and integrate these concepts through co-curricular activities, competitions, and related programs. Each year, TSA and SkillsUSA students compete first at the state level and then the medal winners continue on to the National Competitions.
