Q: How is SURFCAM Licensing controlled?
A: SURFCAM licenses are controlled in one of two ways:

  1. Individual Hardlocks (sometimes known as dongles or SIMs) can be attached to the parallel printer port of each workstation. In addition, a License File is sent to via email to program the lock each year. There is no charge to obtain the new license file each year.
  2. Network License Manager. This is a single parallel lock that can be attached to a server or any one computer that can be "seen" by all the other computers running SURFCAM. This lock is programmed specifically for the number of seats purchased and will serve out a license to each machine when it starts. In addition, a License File is sent to via email to program the lock each year. There is no charge to obtain the new license file each year. Any school ordering a Network License must review the requirements with their Network Administrator and sign and return the Network Licensing agreement. Network locks can be obtained in any number of seats desired. Contact your sales representative for more information.
