FAQs

  • Why use Nylon for 3D Printing on the CubePro?
Check out our infographic for an easy-to-digest overview on the benefits of Nylon.

  • What colors of Nylon are available for 3D printing?
We offer Black, White and Natural.

  • What is the best resolution to 3D print with Nylon?
Nylon works best with 200 micron resolution.

  • What are the properties of Nylon?
It is a rugged, durable material that is great for fixtures, handles and high force prototypes such as handles and levers. See tech specs for specific properties.

  • What kind of parts can be printed with Nylon?
Nylon is a great material for large and strong parts, requiring weight bearing and longevity. Examples include gears, rigs, working hinges, braces and mechanical parts or any part that requires repetitive stress. It is not ideal for fine features and highly detailed parts.

  • How long will Nylon last in CubePro’s Smart Cartridge?
With the newly re-engineered Smart Cartridge, which includes a hydroscopic seal, Nylon will last for up to 12 months of high quality 3D printing.

  • What orientation works well for Nylon parts?
Orient your design such that the area designed to receive the most force or weight bearing will be perpendicular to the vertical direction for best tensile properties.

  • Do Nylon 3D prints require sidewalks?
Yes, Nylon 3D prints require sidewalks on every print to prevent warping. Sidewalks are perforated boarders for easy removal, but with Nylon’s strength, you may need to use a craft blade for certain prints.

  • What support angle works well for Nylon supports?
When using Nylon supports, use the Advanced menu to raise the support angle up to 75-degrees for large radii or long graduated surfaces.

  • What support material is Nylon compatible with?
Nylon is compatible with Infinity Rinse-Away support material, which can be removed quickly and safely in tap water. You can also use the Nylon itself as support material, but it will be more difficult to remove. Use CubePro’s manual supports to anchor corners and areas that may be impacted by shrinkage and warping.

  • What are manual supports?
Manual supports are a new feature in the CubePro slicing software that allows you to add additional supports in either Infinity Rinse-Away soluble support material or native supports, in this case Nylon. After loading part, choose open manual support in the CubePro software menu. From the list, choose the height of the support that best fits the part you wish to support. The support height can be taller than the bottom surface of the part that you wish to support but it should be tall enough to contact the part to insure proper support. Add as many supports as you think you will need prior to placing the parts.

  • Is any post-processing needed for the prints?
Competitive nylon filament needs to either be dried prior to printing or the print needs to be dried post-printing to keep the nylon from absorbing moisture. 3DS nylon filament is protected from moisture intake while inside the sealed cartridge and is cured during the print process to eliminate the need for post-processing drying techniques.
